Camping 4/22-4/24
The students had a great time at our 5/6 Camping trip this year! The students were able to: complete a high ropes course or a climbing wall, learn about forest ecology where they identified different trees and collected maple sap, learned about energy where they were able to look at solar panels and created their own solar box, learned about the food chain and participated in a large predator-prey simulation, learned about birds and met a bald eagle, a crow, a red-tailed hawk, and a barn owl. Below are pictures of the students in their classes, eating, in their bunks, and during down time.
April is National Poetry Month!
The students have just completed their poetry unit where they learned about poetry vocabulary, techniques, and different types of poems. Some of the poems the students learned about and wrote their own poetry are: Haiku, Lantern, Bio Poems, Rhyming Poems, Diamante, and Acrostic. Additionally, each student wrote a poem to submit to the National Poetry Contest.

Camping
We will be going camping this coming MONDAY! The supply list and itinerary has been sent home with the student's weekly reports the past few weeks. Another list will be sent home on Friday. Please email or call with any questions.
Reading MCA's Today and Tomorrow!
The students have started the Reading MCA's today and will continue tomorrow. They have been working extremely hard the past couple of months to prepare for the MCA's. Students should now just focus on what they can control, such as: getting a good night's rest, eating breakfast, and keeping up a positive attitude.

The First Week Back From Spring Break...
Welcome back from Spring Break!
This past week we started our poetry unit. We focused on poetry vocabulary and learned about two types of Japanese poetry, Haiku and Lantern poems. The students especially liked writing their own Haiku and Lantern poems; we have some great poets in the fifth and sixth grade!
We created vocabulary square booklets to practice our poetry vocabulary.
In addition to our poetry unit the students have been working hard studying for the MCA's coming up, April 16th and 17th.
